Yesterday saw the running of our latest Ladbrokes Monthly bonus race, a 515m Maiden which was won in nice fashion by the Charmaine Field trained Amazing Marilyn from box 8. From box 1 in the heats, the black bitch carved out good sections to win convincingly in the quick time of 29.47 seconds while this week running 29.83 seconds in a tradesman like manner after copping interference going into the 1st turn before running down early leader Go Forward Barbs with Pinnacle in 3rd place. The daughter of Dyna Double One and Elusive Zesta has now won $8400.00 in just 2 starts and looks to have a bright future as does her litter brother Kid Psycho who has 4 wins and 5 placings for breeder and trainer Geoff Grimwood, winning his last 2 starts at Wentworth Park. ... Newcastle Greyhounds wish to acknowledge the passing of one on the areas best in Robert Smith, following a courageous battle with cancer. Rob was a passionate supporter of The Gardens including spending many hours helping during the establishment of the track. He then became a committee member of The Gardens Social Club helping to raise money to boost prize money. On the track, there weren't many better, and while the last stage of his career was spent training the Lochinvar dogs for close friend Kevin Gordon, perhaps he is best known for guiding the Ray Watson owned Miss Elly Mint to a record of 44 wins from 66 starts. Included in this was a string of 16 consecutive wins between Oct '08 and Feb '09 all at either FFA or Group level.
Condolences to Deb and all the family on the passing of both a great trainer and a great bloke.

Newcastle Greyhounds were honoured last night to host the Todd Moroney Memorial over 515m for bitches. The race was the concept of Todds son Blake who has followed in his father's footsteps as a trainer. Todd passed away in 2008 at the young age of just 40 years. During his time, he trained numerous TAB winners including putting the polish on one time Richmond 700m record holder, Blazing Fire. He also left his mark on the breeding side with the current team trained by his brother Mark all being decendants of Todds line. Not to be outdone, son Blake trained Ice Reina to win very impressively at Gosford yesterday morning and she also traces back to Todds breed.
The race last night was won by the Jason Mackay trained Cursed in a slick 29.64, taking the black daughter of Kinloch Brae and Halinas record to 16 wins and 17 placings from 42 career starts. Additional prize money saw the winner receive $2000.00, trophy plus a straw to Ando's Mac, kindly donated by Sires On Ice. A large group of family and friends were trackside to remember and honour a much loved friend.
