Attention trainers, a hearing aid was found near the 515m boxes at The Gardens tonight. If you're the owner, you can contact The Gardens on 49515842 after 9.00am Monday.
Yesterday saw the running of our latest Ladbrokes Monthly bonus race, a 515m maiden won very impressively by the Peter Lagogiane trained Knighthood. Until the heats the week before, the red fawn son of Barcia Bale was possibly the country's best maiden having been runner up to Feral Franky throughout the Richmond maiden series in June. He soon shook off the tag last Friday in the heats where he won in a very impressive 29.66 seconds, only to really put the foot down yesterday in running 29.36 seconds. Surprisingly, this was not the quickest time of the day. That honour also went one of Pete's charges in last year's Million Dollar Chase winner Mystic Riot who relished the drop in grade to just edge out the kennel mate for time honours with a fast run of 29.33 seconds. No doubt Pete will be back up the highway to The Gardens in August to contest The Black Top and other feature races, not to mention this year's Million Dollar Chase. Well done to Pete and his team. ... See more

Thank you to all who attended yesterday's private trial session. Barring a couple of small teething problems, the wide opinion was it was one of the smoothest sessions we've ever had. We ran very close to time all morning and we are hoping to improve on-time running again next week. Our primary aim is to ensure your booked time ends up being the actual time that your trial runs. This is to the benefit of ALL concerned, and not just the "loudest" ones who feel that our new system does not suit them. Any action that interferes with this aim just can't be accommodated. If you are late you will miss out. Next week will be the same conditions. Session is 7am to 11am. No extension until we are fully booked. Booking again from 9am Monday. The office staff will resist answering the phone until 1 millisecond past 9am. There is an opportunity to book Monday evening if you can get through to the trial office, but remember they are busy in there for Monday night trials, and they may not be able to answer the phone all the time. You can still book early Tuesday morning if we have spots left. ... See more

Attention owners and trainers. The club has been looking into introducing an online booking system for Tuesday trials for some time. After recent helpful feedback from a number of trainers, the club has now decided to change the current procedures around Tuesday private trials immediately, with a view to implementing the online system soon. As such here are the new arrangements that will apply from next Tuesday 23rd July. These procedures will be strictly enforced, and the online system will operate in a similar manner. There will no longer be permanent bookings. Bookings for Tuesday private trials can be made by phone on 02 49 515842 from 9am to 3pm on the preceding Monday. No bookings before 9am on the Monday! Payment MUST be made at the time of booking to secure your spot. You can only cancel and get a refund if you also cancel on the Monday. No refunds if you cancel on the Tuesday. All trainers are required to arrange a catcher for all trials. The semaphore board will remain OFF for all trials. NO exceptions! It is the trainers responsibility to collect the ticket that is printed after each trial. All trainers must check into the main office at least 10 minutes before their scheduled trial so as to collect a numbered trial ticket. Don't be late! Ticket is to be presented to track staff when you trial. This is to keep each preceding trial PRIVATE! There will be no refunds unless we cancel the entire trial session, or unless your trial is delayed for more than 4 hours. In the the event of a delayed start due to inclement weather (ie: fog), then all trials will be pushed back, however the booked sequence will remain the same and there will be no changes in the queue UNLESS we have an empty spot. We will endeavor to put up a post here on a Monday night showing any vacant spots and bookings can still be made on the Tuesday for a trial on that day. Once again, payment must be made at the time of booking. There will be no cash handled trackside. All bookings MUST go through the office. Thanks again to trainers for providing input into helping the club come up with this new system. ... See more

As you may be aware, the niece of popular Tamworth greyhound people Tony & Robyn Atkins had her life shattered when 3 of her children lost their life in a tragic house fire at Singleton last week. Local trainer Margaret Bright has begun a fundraiser which The Gardens are honored to assist with. Still in the early stages, this will consist of raffles, donations and possibly an auction. As well as the loss of 3 children, the family also lost everything they owned in the fire so we are looking for anything which may help them to rebuild their lives. Newcastle Greyhounds would like to kick this off with a donation of $2000.00 and would encourage everyone to contribute anything you can to help this young family attempt to recover from this tragic event. The Directors of The Gardens would like to thank all the staff for their massive efforts on Friday with our inaugural Sportsman lunch with Kerry O'Keefe, especially Sharon and the team which helped her. For the last few months, Sharon has put her heart and soul into ensuring that the lunch would be the overwhelming success that it was. We would also like to thank Paulette and Jenny for their help with our GOTY presentation including arranging the rug, trophies and the function after. Overall, a great day made possible by a great team. Once again, thanks to all. ... See more

I thought this could be a talking point....
NSW One Nation: POLICY ANNOUNCEMENT Traditionally NSW has been a great racing State but unfortunately, none of the three codes (gallops, harness and dogs) are flourishing as they once were. The Liberal/National Parties have tried to do the work of the Greens with their attack on the greyhound industry. With the demise of Luke Foley, Labor has lost its only representative passionate about racing. These people have no real culture. Successive governments have done little to support NSW racing. Yet this wonderful industry should be the lifeblood of country communities and tourism. It should also be expanding in the city, getting younger people off their computer screens and captivated by the colour and camaraderie of the track. I have had a lifelong love of racing and support the industry 100 percent. It will be one of my top priorities as One Nation Leader if elected to NSW Parliament. Our party has a 10-point plan to support and develop the three codes, as follows: We reject the fanatical propaganda of Green-Left groups attacking racing as cruel to animals. The average owner and trainer loves their racing animals and looks after them well. If the Green-Left had their way, all racing would be closed down and racing animals would be put down, having lost their role in NSW sport... After getting a win at The Gardens tonight and feeling great we were soon disappointed to find that someone had stolen our generator on our trailer. To think that your fellow race mates could do such a thing just makes me sick. To who ever the grub is have a think about what you have done. We both work our butts off to make our dogs comfortable while travelling the distances that we have to travel. If anyone might know its whereabouts or the grub who took it... PLEASE RETURN TO THE GARDENS,,, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. We know the distinctive markings that it has and will be on the lookout. ... See more
